Fr. 163. 1880 $50 Legal Tender Note. PMG Extremely Fine 40.A monster rarity as this Friedberg number is one of seven known, two are permanently impounded in government institutions. Of the five available to collectors this note is the second finest known. The finest, a PCGS 65PPQ sold in our 2014 sale for $200,000. Since then, just one other example has sold, a PMG Very Fine 30 (restoration) for $54,050 in an 2015 Auction. This note represents the finest of the three PMG has graded. This note is among those great EFs that seem to offer much more in terms of visual appeal than one might expect. Well centered and beautifully margined on both sides. A prize for an advanced collector of large size notes. PMG Pop 1/none finer.
